"How To" Guide on Preparing for Kollyba
Kollyba is a mixture of boiled wheat with sugar, seeds, nuts, and herbs. It is made during the Lent season, to remember those who have passed away. It was usually decorated nicely, to help make the celebration better. Each ingredient has a meaning of why it was put into the mixture
Ingredients:
- ½ cup of wheat (prosperity)
- ¼ cup of Barley (dispels negativity, love, healing, protection)
- 4 3/4 cups water, divided
- 2 teaspoons apple juice (love, healing)
- 1 teaspoons honey (sweetness)
- 1 teaspoons maple syrup (love, longevity, money)
- 1 teaspoons olive oil (peace, healing, protection, potency)
- ½ teaspoons cinnamon (spirituality, success, healing, power, protection, love)
- Pinch of Chili Pepper (fidelity, hex-breaking, love), Optional
- ½ teaspoons vanilla (strengthen mental abilities)
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice (longevity, purification, love, friendship), Optional
- ½ cup of nuts and seeds
- ½ cup of fruit
- powered sugar, to taste
Directions:
1. Soak wheat over night in 1 3/4 cups of water. Add the barley and 3 cups of water. For 30 - 60 minutes boil then simmer until grains are soft. Drain, rinse and cool.
2. Mix together in a small safe heat bowl, apple juice, honey, maple syrup (optional), olive oil, cinnamon, chili powder (optional), lemon juice (optional), and vanilla. Heat until honey and syrup readily mixes in.
3. Mix in a large bowl, the remaining ingredients except powdered sugar. Add the liquid mixture to the bowl and stir well. Taste then add powdered sugar if necessary. Dish should be slightly sweet. Chill and serve.
